We had another night of firsts in our house. After picking up the kids and getting home, I left the boys with Michael and took Gracie to the mall to shop. She starts ballet this Saturday morning, so we had to prepare. Leotard, tights, skirt, and ballet shoes……..all in PINK! And of course, the pink ballet bag to put it all in. She was so proud, so excited, and it just made me smile. It took me back to being a little girl when my mom took my sister and I to do the same thing. I nearly cried right there in the middle of the dance store!!!! I just hope that $125 later, Grace likes it enough to at least wear out what we bought yesterday!! I loved to dance as a child (still do!), and I hope she finds as much joy in it as I do. I can’t wait to see her and her tiny classmates in their pink outfits, dancing across the floor! There was a funny….the salesgirl asked if I wanted a scrunchy or bun net for Grace’s hair. For those I haven’t known that long, Grace doesn’t have much hair and it’s certainly NOT long enough to put up in a ponytail or bun….Ryley has cut her hair off entirely TWICE, and I mean her entire head of hair, to the scalp. So I just laughed, and bought her shiny barrettes to go with her pink get-up!
This morning when Gracie got up, DRY PULL-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Amen and Hallelujah! In perspective, it was just one night, but I could not believe it when she told me she hadn’t peep’ed in her pull-up. I had to check it out for myself…..I picked up the pull-up……spaceships (yes, she wears the Buzz Lightyear pull-ups, when we’re out of Sesame Street and Dora!) still there!! The Pull-Up was DRY!! AMAZING! How I hope and pray that this is the first of dry nights for her! I just can’t imagine not buying pull-ups and diapers….we’ve been at it for almost five years between the three kids. Ryley’s potty training, well that’s a story in and of itself, but to even get one kid out of diapers/pull-ups would be the beginning of the end!
What a night it was in the Schweitzer household! Here’s to little girls starting ballet, and the end of pull-ups!
