Total frustration

Michael took Ethan back to the dr’s office on Friday afternoon since I couldn’t leave work. He saw the NP again, the one that saw him on Monday. She essentially told him we were crazy, that there was no way he’d be walking on it and not screaming if anything were broken. She did not refer him to x-ray, just said (again) that maybe he strained something. It has now been 8 days since he hurt it. He is STILL limping. I do not understand how any 2 year old could “strain” anything so badly that 8 DAYS LATER, he is still limping on it. Yes, he will run on it, yes he is walking on it without crying, but he is still limping. Maybe Grace’s broken arm is coming back to haunt me. She had no localized swelling or bruising either, she just wouldn’t push down on that arm. I’m terrified that maybe there is a fracture or something, and that if we don’t find it, something bad will happen…..it’ll heal incorrectly or something and he’ll limp for the rest of his life. I was so angry when I got home Friday night and Michael told me what had happened at the dr’s office. I already have a call into the triage nurse, asking to speak with the doctor and not the NP this time, and get an x-ray because I’m just not satisfied with what we’ve been told. Am I crazy? I’d rather be crazy and have an x-ray that says he’s okay, than take any chances. And if it is broken, that office is going to HEAR ABOUT IT!!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a completely different note, Easter was great at our house. The kids LOVED their baskets. Ryley got the coolest X-Box game. It has all the old school games on it……pacman, ms pacman, digdug, galaga….AWESOME. I don’t think he’s going to get to play it much, competing with his parents to get time with it!! LOL! Grace actually hugged the Princess lamp that the Easter Bunny brought her, and Ethan played with his Thomas trains all day. We went to our friends’ house for Easter dinner with a couple other families. My kids were so dirty they almost had to be hosed off before getting in the car. And they were falling asleep in the bathtubs! At least they went to bed easily! Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!!

  1. Okay, this post cracked me up because I can totally relate to feeling really frustrated BUT focusing on good things. I’m with you, get the x-ray, let them think you’re nuts – WHO CARES. Better nuts and knowing that your little guy’s foot is okay. I think my hubby would have liked a new XBOX game – he’s such a kid. Hugs to you Donna,
    Sam

  2. Donna, I’m with Sam…I’d demand an x-ray too!! Better safe than sorry….especially when it comes to kids & growing bones!! Keep your foot down & don’t let up!!! Who cares if they think you’re nuts…we love ya’ – nutty or not!! Glad you had such a great Easter…and the kids all enjoyed their baskets!! Xbox games….wow!! Taylor got *Floam* and was estatic!! Hugs!!

  3. Two-year olds can’t keep up an act for 8 days. They don’t have the mental capacity to fake it or over exaggerate the act for 8 days – not even the smartest of 2 yo’s. I’d demand an xray, too. Glad Easter was fun!

  4. My dear, dear Diva D…Demand the x-ray…follow your gut… Also, YOU CRACK ME UP!! I can just hear you screaming AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH….then calmly and in a chiper voice, “On a completely different note…” I laughed out loud when I got to that line…I can just hear you and see you. Love ya!

  5. It sounds like you had a wonderful Easter. I am so glad. HUGS! And yes…you are *So* funny. Funny is very good. And you have such a wonderful ability to tell your story. Hugs!

  6. Hi Donna, I’m with everyone else who posted, I would most definetely demand an x-ray and if they won’t do it, go somewhere else! I can’t believe a dr.’s office would let that go on a 2 year old for 8 days! That’s crazy. You know what you have to do. Glad you had a nice Easter and everyone enjoyed their toys from the Easter bunny! Hugs,
    Donna

  7. UPDATE!!!! Ethan has an appt on Friday afternoon to go back in and get an x-ray. In the meantime, we’re supposed to alternate 20 minutes of ice and 20 minutes of heat…yeah, right…..like I’m supposed to get him to let me do that, or sit still long enough for me to do that!!!!! At least I’m getting my x-ray! Thanks for your votes of confidence that I’m not completely nuts, partially nuts I’m fine with! HUGS!

  8. I don’t blame you about wanting an x-ray. I would too. I had so many when I was growing up that I think I glow in the dark. LOL. I understand where you are coming from and I would insist on it.
