Kindergarten and disney

I don’t always realize how much we have going on in our family and household, until I start blogging about it. It has been a busy summer!!!

I think I am going to like Ryley’s Kindergarten teacher. “Mrs I” is understandably the take-control type, but she is also kind of a grandma type. And she loves music, using it a lot in her classroom, which Ryley ought to just love. In the first half of the meet and greet, she took time with the kids, introducing herself to them, and preparing them for what their class time will be like. She is going to have to be a take-charge type with this crew! Ryley was relatively quiet, which is unusual for him, but I am sure that once he finds his comfort zone, he will be just as outgoing as usual. He is going to have some competition though if Friday was any indication. The second half, Mrs. I focused on the parents, thank goodness. I think we are more afraid of what is to come than the kids are. She firmly took us into hand, letting us know how to drop off and pick up (one of my biggest worries!), and what all they need to bring, etc. I volunteered for just about everything. I really can’t wait to help out in his class, and be part of the school community.

Right after the meeting, we headed to Disneyland. I don’t know who was more excited, us or the kids. The weather was perfect. We were ready for a great day at the “Happiest Place on Earth”. It lived up to its promise, thankfully. I couldn’t have asked for better behavior from the kids (outside of Ethan running around like a madman while we waited for the parade to start, and Ryley starting a meltdown as we stood in line for the last ride of the day). We didn’t get to every part of the park, but we made a valiant effort to his some of the highlights for the kids. It was a little hard because Ethan is still to small for most of the big rides, but we got him on the cars at Autopia, Small World, the Tea Cups, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and BuzzLightyear. We also got to meet the Mouse himself – after waiting in line for an hour!! But it was well worth it, resulting in a GREAT photo, and a memory for a lifetime. Ryley has no fear whatsoever….he rode Space Mountain twice and was ready to go again. He wanted to go on every “big” rollercoaster there. I have a feeling we’ll be making a trip to Magic Mountain soon where the really big coasters are! Here’s hoping my head and my stomach will survive that trip. Grace is a little less fearless. She especially DIDN’T like Pirates, letting me know that she never wanted to go on that “scary ride” ever again. She spent most of that ride on my lap, just shaking. Poor girl. You should have seen the look on her face when the Disney Princesses waved to her from the parade, and Ryley actually blushed when Cinderella blew him a kiss! Just seeing Disney through their eyes, with all the excitement and wonder, gave me a lump in my throat and a misting in my eyes. I can’t wait to go back!!!

Yesterday (see, I told you we’ve been busy!) was Ryley’s first soccer game. yippee. I can see how people get caught up in this game, but it’s still really not my cup of tea. Ryley scored two goals, but his team still lost, by a lot. They didn’t care. They had a great time running up and down the field, chasing after that ball. And their coaches are so wonderful….so full of enthusiasm for the sport and encouragement for the kids. That I really appreciate!

Whew! Tomorrow is the first day of Kindergarten. Am I ready? I don’t really know. I’ll let you all know how it goes as soon as I get home from dropping him off. Grace has her first day of Pre-K tomorrow, and I think she’s just as excited as Ryley. She’s been amazing me lately….learning all her letter sounds, and writing her name, as well as our names all the time. She probably could have started Kindergarten this year, and been relatively successful, but I think emotionally, she will just be better off waiting that extra year.

Okay, I’m still trying to figure out how to make my pictures smaller so I can post them. Apparently, my new camera takes images that are too large for Share. AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I promise…I will get pictures up here someday of our latest adventures, and will use my other digital for the first day of Kindergarten!
