I had the most amazing weekend….it was just one of those 48 hour periods where great things happen, karma is going your way, and you just get to feel good about life.
I grew up in and around the Bay Area, first south and then east of San Francisco. It’s never been a city whose beauty I took for granted. I went “home” this weekend for some training with the March of Dimes for the Family Teams Leadership Council they have formed in our CA chapter. I flew in Friday night, grabbed my luggage and then a shuttle to head across the bridge into the City. I love that sight….the Bay Bridge all lit up, the City skyline so beautiful in the cold, clear, dark sky. It made me feel good just to see it. And I love being home. We’ve lived in San Diego almost five years, but I will always miss and always love going home. And then I get to this beautiful hotel in downtown SF and get to meet some wonderful MoD staffers, and other volunteer moms. Among them was Jessica Bracy – another Share mom. It is amazing how you read someone’s life, read their comments for so long and when you finally get to meet them, you feel like you already know them. It was so awesome to meet Jessica – it too made my heart feel good. And I have to tell you, her friend Heather brought tears to my eyes. Jessica, you are so blessed to have such a friend. Heather has been by Jessica’s side through her entire journey. Some of my family members haven’t stayed that close with us on our walk with prematurity. Heather rocks! Anyways, we had a great dinner. We didn’t even realize that three hours had passed – the conversation was flowing, the food was great. It was just a great night! Saturday was training day. It was intense, it was fun, it was inspirational, it was emotional. I am fully inspired to build this family teams committee here in San Diego. I’m charged up for Walk and for my own family team.
After the training, my brother picked me up. He had tickets to a minor league hockey game. The one problem I had was that I hadn’t taken any extra clothes to wear to a hockey game. So we stopped at the mall on the way back to his house. I guess I’ve been keeping a lot of stuff pretty quiet, but I’ve been on Weight Watchers since late October, and started exercising. It’s not that I needed to lose a lot, but I wanted to get off those last 10 lbs that I hadn’t been able to get rid of since before Michael and I got married. I haven’t been clothes shopping since I started this new adventure. So into the store I go. I grabbed two different sizes of jeans…one just one size down from what I’d been wearing, and one two sizes down. Guess what?!!!! The smaller one fit!!!!!!!!! I was so excited! I felt like I hit the jackpot! Then we went to the game and had a great time. It was just good to spend time with family. And my brother is doing fairly well…no more ticker issues since the angiogram. He’s learning how to keep his stress under control. Yesterday, we went to church which was so uplifting, then had lunch with my sister and nieces. The only “bad” thing about the entire weekend was that my flight coming home was an hour and a half delayed.
So, I’m exhausted. But it’s a good tired. We have a lot to do. But it’s a good lot to do. And I’m ready to get started!
